Abstract
Abstract The existences of sharks in the Java Sea have an important role as a counterweight to the sea ecosystem. On the other hand, sharks have economic value for fishermen. Fishermen catch and sell sharks as a mean to survive. Meanwhile, the role of art in social life is now increasingly needed. Art is needed specifically as a space for awareness, where a group of people can appreciate and think about the importance of survival or balance between the environment and other creatures. This is a case study about the impact of shark exploitation. The result of the study will be produced in an installation. The installation composed of scenes that show the cruelty of the fishing process and the impact on the environment. This is a manifestation of the artist’s dilemmas. Keywords: sharks, ecosystems, hunting, economic value, and installation works
