Abstract

Toraja has been known as a region in Indonesia that has a unique decorative feature. This research aims to look at the visual identity that is that used in the interior of the Toraja Tator Cafe in Jakarta. It was the decorative ornaments that make the Toraja Cafe interior unique. This research was done in two Tator Cafes: Dharmawangsa Square and Grand Indonesia. That places chosen because it could represent all the other Tator Cafes in Jakarta. At those two cafés, we could see how the Toraja decorative ornaments applied as aesthetic elements of the interior design, and there are differences on how the Toraja ornaments being used as a visual identity of the Cafe. The differences are very significant. This research uses qualitative methodology. The data gathered through interviews with Cafe Tator owners, interior designers and visitors. The other method is to study literature from various sources such as books, magazine and the internet. I use all the result of the observation, interview, literature study and implementation of appropriate theory in order to get the concept of visual identity of the Toraja Cafes.
